Competitive Power Ventures broke ground in November 2025 on the CPV Basin Ranch Energy Center, a 1,350-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas power plant in Ward County representing approximately $2 billion in investment, with Gemma Power Systems leading construction, (Business Wire) GE Vernova supplying turbines, a $1.1 billion Texas Energy Fund loan secured as the program's largest single award to date, and commercial operations targeted for 2029, making Ward County the site of one of the largest active power generation construction programs in West Texas. Grandfalls sits along US-385 in central Ward County, positioned between the Delaware Basin's active upstream producing corridor to the west and the Permian's major midstream trunk line network to the east, placing it in the direct path of both the power generation construction spread advancing from the CPV Basin Ranch site and the midstream right-of-way and facility work extending through the county. Combined-cycle power plant construction at the scale of CPV Basin Ranch demands bulk water continuously across the multi-year construction timeline, from civil grading and caliche road preparation through turbine foundation concrete pours, cooling tower installation, and the sustained pressure testing requirements of a facility of this generating capacity. With a construction workforce peaking in the hundreds across a single large-footprint site, and concurrent midstream pipeline installation crews operating in the same county, Ward County's regional water sourcing capacity will be under sustained competitive pressure well before CPV Basin Ranch reaches commercial operation in 2029.
